PLACES TO EAT

China Town

About:

Some of Manchester’s best Oriental and East Asian cuisine can be found in China town. It is located in the city centre, just off Portland Street. Most of the restaurants are positioned along Faulkner and George Street.

Manchester’s China Town is the second largest in the U.K. The first Chinese restaurants opened shortly after the Second World War. Many more opened in the 1960’s, but by the end of the decade these had all closed down. The Chinatown we see today is based around restaurants set up in the 1970’s such as the Yang Sing and the Woo Sang which are still open today. The Woo Sang was established in 1975 and the Yang Sing was established 1977. Above the Woo Sang Restaurant there is the Woo Sang Chinese Supermarket, which sells ingredients used in Asian and Eastern cookery.
